I had the pleasure of attending the Romance Was Born SS15 show, showcased at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) on Thursday where their latest collection was held in the awe inspiring Art Gallery of NSW. One of the most anticipated shows of the week, Romance Was Born celebrates their 10th year anniversary and boy they didn’t disappoint. Titled Cooee Couture, the collection was a joint collaboration between Romance Was Born and Linda Jackson celebrating all things Australiana, taking inspiration straight from the unique flora and fauna; wattle, rich granite rocks, rainbow serpents’, even Ned Kelly are conveyed via unique prints’, silks, sequins and accessories to bring together a myriad of myths and legends, the icons and spirit of our land – where nature is the divine creative influencer on all. Beautiful gum-nuts and gum-leaves are transformed into delicate necklaces designed by Dinosaur Designs for Romance Was Born completing the whole look. It is important to note that Cooee Couture is not about couture – rather it is Romance Was Born’s fashion shout-out to Jackson’s flamboyant style and a tribute to her groundbreaking fashion label Bush Couture.
“We have reinterpreted Linda’s central themes, inspirations and prints into various textile developments all done by hand,” said Romance Was Born’s Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett of the designs. “The Australian landscape, rainbows, ocean and love of colour play a big role in the collection. We love the flamboyance of the 80’s and have concentrated on full head to toe dressing.”
