The Alice McCall Les Galeries de Poison Cruise 13/14 collection takes inspiration from German botanist illustrator Ernst Haekel and the intricate Art Nouveau jewels of French artist René Jules Lalique translating into a colour palette of softly washed tones of bone, seashell pink and champagne. Rich silhouettes subtly miic elements of oceanic creatures like the smokey plumes of silk dresses imitating bell shaped jellyfish, circle cut silk jumpsuits replicate sea urchins and sheer ruffles float like sea plants. Alice McCall’s Cruise collection encapulates the very essence of her label: feminine, floating, subtle sexuality and above all an embracement of the female form.
Embellishment, prints and detail have become synonomous with the label and Les Galeries de Poison doesn’t disappoint; delicately pleated and draped silk seperates, dresses and modern gowns carry intricate watercolour illustrative prints while cocooned oversized shoulders, sculptured circular cut hemlines and petal shaped sleeves created a nice balance between embellishments and sharp sculptured silhouettes. My favourite pieces include the beautifully beaded white sheer pleated dress as well as the ruffle detailing scattered throughout the collection – congratulations Alice on the clean, strong and ultra sexy collection!
